What are the best settings for horse racing photography with the D7200?

Hi,

It will be a hot day around 88 degrees. What are the best settings for panning and freeze action photography? The horses will be coming toward me. I am going to use a Tamron 70-200, 2.8 lens. Should I use Focus tracking too via the AF-L/AE-L button? I can't bring a tripod. Any recommendations are appreciated.

Thanks,

Lee

check the thread "post your horse shots" it has horse racing photos and other action horse photos. used the data from the photos as a starting point. recommend you check on "back button focus". i would use these setting focus settings AF- C 9 points. you have a good lens, with proper technique you should not need a tripod. post post post your pictures
if you post we can help if you have problems.
