won the bid for a Nikon Nikkor 35-70mm 1:3.3-4.5 Lens with Lens Hood, Len... for $44 want to try some manual macro with it. Good lens Bad lens ???

I don't have an answer for you, but shouldn't these kind of questions be asked before buying the lens? lol

it wil work on 3100 in manual, just wanted to know if anyone has used it. if i dont like it i will resell it. Besides, i plan to get some newer lenses in the spring. wife and i talked about it and i am going to get a small studio set up with a second camera and lenses. besides, if i can make as much money in photography as i do in overtime at my job i would rather carry a camera to make up the overtime instead of a 20 lb bag. lol

if it had cost any more i wouldnt have got it. it shouldnt be a bad lens for still shots and macro.

I have a 35-70mm and it's a nice lense. I have screw on macro lens that help get in really close to the object- I have a +2, +4, and a +10 that I use quite often.

got the lens this morning. havent tried out too much. will get some pics this week.

The 35-70 3.3-4.5 was a "kit lens" sold with the Nikon 601 & 801 film cameras(I still have my 601 combo) not the greatest lens however it did improve when used with my D200. This lens will NOT auto focus on your D3100 - so it will be a 100% manual lens.

I think this is NOT a macro lens.
I personally have not tried this particular lens.
But for your purpose (macro), you could have bought a reverse ring adapter or extension tubes for your kit lens to do macro.

oh i already knew i would have to use manual. just trying it to see if macro would be better then my 18-55 kit lense.
