D3100 - video usage!

Don't know if this is an issue that has been dealt with before, but here goes;
I tried today, with good light conditions, to use the video, but... the camera kept on auto focusing and might I add not very good at it. The AF is so noisy in the 18-105mm kit lens. So hmm not very useable to record, with AF
I think you have to use another lens or use manual focus.
Any other thoughts on this issue, or I am the only one with this problem?

shot with AF or MF? looks like MF

I really don't remember. This was before i had the camera replaced because of focus problems
