Frankly though I have had great success using the spot metering mode on my camera for moon shots.

Looks like any plans of mine to shoot the moon are to be kiboshed by cloud. Dunno about the 2x TC tho, i'll lose a bit of IQ

I have and use that teleconverter and it works very well. It is much better than the old 2x. Remember that you will lose two stops of light and that it will make your lens a 5.6 instead of 2.8. This is a very good teleconverter and I highly recommend it.

I had that combo and sold the convertor as I didn't get consistent results. It could take superb images but also many mediocre ones. Maybe I was unlucky. My Tamron 150-600 serves me better.
