How to use the extension battery pack?

So I may sound dumb but I'm just getting into photography again and I got a used D5000. The camera came with this extension battery pack that looks like it goes in the battery portion of the camera, but I cannot put it all the way in because of the little door that holds the regular battery. Help Please.

You have to remove the little door first in order to install the battery pack. Be careful removing it; look at it carefully, as it is easy to break if removed wrong. A gentle tug will take it off, then just slide your battery pack in. On the battery pack, there is a place to store the regular battery door. It slides into the long post portion of the battery pack.
This is a different model, but will explain visually what you need to know.

Make sure the battery door is at about a 30 degree angle and it will come off. Be very very gentle with it cause you will snap it if you force it.
