High ISO shots at the rodeo - Don Kuykendall

I finally pushed this camera about as far as you can tonight. The following shots range from a low of ISO 18102 to a high of ISO 51200

I am pretty pleased. Processing in Lightroom only.

The hardest part was deciding on which ones to post. Since on many of the rides I had it on Continuous high so I ended up shooting over 500 shots and everyone of them were in focus and good. Back Button Focus with thumb on so in AF-C. Nailed it.

Too many great shots. What a wonderful problem to have.

Where was the rodeo? ETA: based on the ads, I'm guessing somewhere close to Prattville, Alabama.

It was in Montgomery, AL which is the Capital of Alabama and what we consider a bedroom community of Prattville. It is about 10 miles south of Prattville.

So you are the reason for the rain then.

I think these are fantastic shots that really showcase the high ISO capabilities of this sensor. However, if you enlarge any of them, how bad is the noise? And did you do any NR in Lightroom? You mentioned, "Processing in Lightroom only", so does that mean any NR was done?

Yes I did some noise reduction in LR. I have not tried to print anything so I really can't tell you. May be something I try just to see.

Those are really good shots Don. I have not been to a Rodeo in a long time and that brought me right back. I have an an uncle that was a bronc rider and a couple of his daughters, now granddaughters barrel race. I am amazed at the clarity. Wow...
