Ball game with the 70-300 vr

The Washington Nationals triple-A affiliate is here in Syracuse, I brought my 70-300 to see how well it would perform. Unfortunately it was cloudy, so I shot with the ISO between 800-3200 for more speed. I did not crop any of these shots to show the true range, shot most of these between 210-300mm. The pitcher is Stephen Strasburg, there on "rehab". Because of him, I could not get good seats and was not shooting from a great angle.

Are you using the AFS 70-300 G ED VR lens? I have one and love it but the only problem is the f stop is 4.5. Focusing can be difficult under low light condition. I am considering replacing it with the 70-200 f2.8 but was held back by the cost.

May I hijack to post a photo I took using the same lens

Yes, same lens. I like the 70-200 2.8 for it's speed and clarity. The downside of that lens is it's larger, heavier and only 200mm. I know everyone on the site is always salivating over pro lenses, but they do have drawbacks besides just cost.

I have the 70-300 VR myself I have no problem shooting under low light.
Although I use.a D7000 body great combo. Very nice lens, one of my most used lenses. I shot some circus shots in a tent and they turned out great!
Lighting does not seem to be a real big issue.

I guess when I first started, I was advised to set ISO as low as possible. So I take it as to maintain 100-200.

I now is trying to go higher to maybe 800 if lighting is poor. That is why I am also looking for noise reduction software.

What camera are you using? For a D90 you can push up to 1600 ISO without loosing too much quality.
However, a D7000 allows 6400 ISO with an acceptable level of noise, that makes a difference in lowlight.
