compatibility issue with 80-200 AF ED push pull

Hello,
As a proud owner of D750 a purchased this lens on Ebay in minty condition. Got it today and unfortunately the lens does not work together with the 750 in a sense, the camera does not recognize the lens. I cannot take pictures and the Aperture is not working. Have I missed a compatibility issue between them or there is a problem with the lens?

If the lens has an aperture ring, the aperture on the ring must be set at the smallest f/stop (like f/22 or f/32...whatever it is). If there is a way to lock that aperture on the ring, you need to do that. If the aperture isn't set at the smallest f-stop, the camera will just read err. Once it is set that way, you set your camera's aperture the normal way using the dial. Have you done this already and it still isn't working?
