Help please banding on the 810 and 85mm 1:4 lens

Hi all
I have recently bought a Nikon 810 and a 50mm lens and a 85mm 1:4. I shoot newborns and a few of them have banding in the background, i don't know if i have done something wrong or if there is an issue. The image below is an example and is SOOR.

Looks like you're not the only one with this problem. And it is not the lens's issue, I guess:

Did you export using lightroom?

I must be getting old. I don't see any 'banding'.

It's on the light patch to the left of babies ear. Not so noticeable on here but worse in PS

It appears to be a fold in the OOF background.

Yes it is a fold .... around the light area is where the banding is, or at least i think it's banding

You've got better eyes than me.

Or maybe worse.


Drag the image into your editing software and play around with the brightness / contrast sliders and see if you can accentuate it. I can't.

I tried darkening can you see it now?

I just see what appears to be a fold in the background cloth. It's highlighted on the left, and shadow on the right.

I don't think you have a banding problem, its just something darker behind the baby.

Do you have any more examples ?

If you read the linked articles there was an issue with Lightroom 5.7 but that's been fixed, and you said you didn't use LR anyway. What version of Camera Raw are you using in PS ?
The other link in DPR was actually a troll so no banding issue at all there.

Could you point out on the print exactly what you're calling 'banding'. All I can see is an OOF background.

I really don't see it. But it might be moiré.

I thought I had banding on my D7200, turned out to be my monitor.

I don't see any issues..

That is the lines in the fabric. The combination of the lines and the OOF may make you think it's banding, but it's not.
