live view won't come on

Hi - D3300, just out of the box and set up - and when I press the live view button it doesn't do anything (monitor stays at the info screen). Can anyone tell me if I've accidentally 'locked out' live view (is this possible?) or is there a common cause for this?

Did you "unlock" the lens? The 18-55 kitlens has a lock feature. Maybe when you press the question mark, the cause will be displayed? Or the lens is not well attached?
