Interesting: The Gear Behind NASA's Cool-Looking Space Cameras
How Does NASA Get a Nikon D2Xs DSLR Ready to Go to Space? | Popular Photography

The camera that an astronaut uses is a retail Nikon D2X with NASA-specific firmware and special lubricant for space operation. Thrown on top of the rig is a modified Nikon SB-29 sync cord that lets the astronaut attach an auto-focus illuminator for taking photos in low-light conditions.

The camera also includes a Nikon SB-800 Flash housed in a specialized case suited for space. Both the flash unit and the bracket are then enclosed in a pressurized space blanket.

I never thought of a flash not working in the vacuum of space. hah

LOL Well I have the same camera, now where do I get the rocket.............. Hmmmmm I suppose that NASA have a couple of used Shuttles that might be available! LOL
Just goes to prove how rugged the D2x is, although I would have thought that the D2xs or D3 would have been in use instead :)

I had a model rocket when I was younger with a camera on board - it was 110 film I believe. Never got a good pic out of it. Oh well :)

Actually it was the old version of this: 001848 - SnapShot
