Adding Textures to Images

I using a MacBook Pro on OS 10.6.8 and would like to find an app to use to add textures to some of my selected images. There is a nice one for the IPAD called Stackables - Layered Textures, Effects, and Masks so something like this would be good for me to try. Any suggestions or ideas are welcome.

in 2006 when it was really in, I did it with photoshop with layers and the overlay drop down filter. then I would erase where I needed. this is an example of how to exaggerate with editing. just way too much for my eyes today.

No app needed with Photoshop or PSE. Easy-peasy.
