After 2 months of not even picking up the camera due to work I have just spent some of the over time money I have not yet been paid! New Sigma 105mm f2.8 being delivered tomorrow;) First macro lens so here comes a new learning curve.

Nice shots from your garden.

I am right behind you. A Sigma 105mm was waiting here upon my return today. These things are way cool.

The lens comes with two hoods, one for dx and one for the full frames. The hoods are each 2-1/8" long and can be stacked. There are 3 settings for the auto focus (full, 0.45m-infinity, and 0.312-0.45m), the 1:1 focus is 0.312. The optical stabilization has an off plus two other choices, I am thinking that I read it has one for tripod and one for hand held. The focus switch has auto and manual, during auto it can be over ridden by a twist of the adjustment ring. Really swell is that it takes just 100 degrees of twist from 1:1 to infinity.

Working distance without a hood attached are the same for dx and fx bodies. The distance with just the lens is 5-1/4", with a Raynox 150 it's 2-3/4", and with a Raynox 250 it's 2-1/4". Here are some quick shots to show the difference of dx and full frame using a metric ruler.

Full frame 1:1 - 22mm tall

To follow up on the 3 position OS switch. From lenstip's review: Here you have three options available: OFF, 1 and 2.

Mode 1 is used for normal photography and Mode 2 to shoot moving objects.

From one morning's insect search, I gotta say the Sigma 105mm macro is very nice. The small amount of extra working distance does make a considerable difference over the Tamron 60mm. The 60mm is a good lens for sure but even a 1/4 of an inch can make a difference in close quarters. What can be seen in a dew drop is pretty cool.
