Hello, the name is Andy.
Just bought a d3300 with 18-55mm and 55-200mm kit lenses.
I'm new to DSLR's but already having a blast using my d3300.
I tend to take photos of whatever grabs my eye. But most of
my photos will be of my grandson and my son's gigs. I already
think I need a faster lens for shooting my son's gigs at the local
music venues he plays at. Looking forward to learning a lot from
this forum.

Howdy Andy and welcome to Nikonites!

For the faster lens ... check out some of the Nikon primes like the 35mm/f1.8 ... fast lens that won't break the bank. Not sure the music venues in question, but most of the ones I played were small enough that a 35mm or 50mm wouldn't be lacking in reach, and both are very affordable. Even the 85mm/f1.8 is not too expensive if you need that extra reach.

WELCOME! I've shot a few inside music gigs with bad lighting... and I can vouch for the 50mm 1.8G being a FANTASTIC OPTION! I shot quite a few at an indoor benefit rock concert and had amazing results!

Thanks for the input. Reach will not be an issue with the venues.
I was thinking of getting the 50mm/f1.8. Thanks for letting me know it will probably work for me.
