If you want an indoor lens for parties, get the 35 1.8. It's light, fast and sharp. Or if you have a little more money, a 17-50 2.8 Tamron or the 19-55 2.8 Nikon. But the 35 is the lightest and the brightest, and probably the cheapest too. I think that if you got the 50 it would be good for portraits, but for parties, even the 35 is a little too long.

Just my 2 canadian pennies.

Well, I would keep the 18-55mm, sell the 55-200mm and get the 70-300mm.
Your 18-55mm. Should be great for parties??

I can attest to Marcel's choice, I also have the AF 35mm f/1.8 its very light weight, it works well in low light ( a little slow to focus though) and was only $199.99 so I am not complaining. Not that my old manual focus 50mm f/1.2 lens isn't good enough, I just don't trust my eyesight in lowlight situations. They both work just fine.!
But keep in mind I'am the half assed photographer.!!!!!!!!!!!!
