I've just ordered two used photography books from Amazon:

Using Your Camera: A Basic Guide to 35mm Photography, by George Schaub, and
Basic 35mm Photo Guide, by Craig Alesse.

I might be ahead of Alesse's book, since I do have experience with an SLR, but I might get something out of it. I think Schaub's book will be profitable.

There's two books I will recommend for you:

The Digital Photography Book Vol.1

The Digital Photography Book Vol.2 }All by Scott Kelby

The Digital Photography Book Vol.3

I plan to learn digital photography, since having a DSLR is a top priority, but I want to go back to the basics first, like I would have learned in the 80s. I know the principles of light, exposure, focal length, and all the rest are the same for any camera, but where I'm coming from, the digital aspect is more of a distraction. I'll move on to it later.
