This is my sample photo and what I had in mind. Hope the admin don't mind me posting it here but it isn't showing above.
Note this is not an entry as it was taken a while back.

Don't know why you don't see it, but the same photo is showing in post #1.

A question, primarily for @Blacktop or @Lawrence, but I welcome insight from anyone else as well.

Genuine instances of smoke and steam, in any photogenic form, are pretty rare in my life. To stick to the true spirit of this theme, as I understand it, I'd probably have to sit this one out.

I will state that I have a history of being a bit ornery about overly-strict applications of themes, but in this case, I have no intention of being so.

I have a fog machine, that I bought many, many years ago, and have never used. I was thinking of it recently, as I have an idea how I might use it for a photograph for the current monthly challenge. I'm wondering if fog generated by this machine would be acceptable as an alternative to smoke or steam; as it would look visually similar, but would not technically be actual smoke or steam. (To be really nitpicky, visible “steam” isn't really steam, either. Steam is invisible. It's only water that condenses out, back to liquid form, and becomes a fog, that is visible as “steam”.)

I thought of shooting a sultry lady in a red dress. Does that answer your concern?

Edited to add: Steam is invisible, but the common idea is that steam is what we see. In many instances steam is evident by the condensing water vapor that we do see.

The way this challenge is stated, it is fairly wide open to how an artist might make us think Smoke or Steam.

Got a kettle?
A billy can?
Know anyone who smokes? Pipe/cigarettes

C'mon Bob I am sure you can think of something :)
We'd love to have you participate.

For what its worth I have no idea what I might land up shooting and no ideas as yet. I think that is all part of these weekly challenges; coming up with something different (outside of our comfort zone)

On a side note - I'd love to see that fog machine in action. Start a thread!
