18-140mm lens

Hello all,

I'm considering buying a Nikon D5300 with a 18-140mm lens. Can you tell me if this lens is good enough for astrophotography?
Does the f/stop have to be lower than 3.5?

Most of the posts I have read on here suggest that using a wide angle lens is better for star shots, while a nice 600 mm zoom is good for moon shots with the camera you have or thinking about getting.
