Only play back(display) photos named DSC_XXXX?

Not sure about coolpix.....can you clarify what you mean?

I don't know if it has to do with the name or the fact that the file is in the camera-specific format, but I wouldn't expect a Coolpix to be able to display a JPEG from any other camera with the exception of another Coolpix, and possibly something else of the same resolution. Regardless, I'm not sure why it would be necessary to preview the JPEGs from another camera stuck on your memory card.
Should've been more descriptive. Took SD card out of Coolpix A, popped it into computer to look at the photos. Also renamed one file from the DSC_XXXX to "Cloud2" or something. When SD card went back into camera, that file was invisible. Put back into computer, renamed the "Cloud2" back to DSC_XXXX format, using a random 4 digit XXXX. SD card back into camera, all good. Got confirm from Nikon, CP A only "sees" files in the DSC_XXXX format. Just got the camera, so came as a surprise to be so limited in names. No biggie. Thanks all.
