Taking movies

Through trial and error and studying the manual info for my camera, I've concluded that you can only use the LCD screen for movies and cannot use the viewfinder-is that correct? Paul

That is correct. I can tell you that in the Nikons I have had, the D3100, D5100, D7000 and The Beast (D7100) that is the way they all act.

To shoot video, the shutter has to remain open and that closes off the view finder (You see it quickly happen when you take a normal still photo). The camera changes to live view for video as while shooting, this is the only way to preview what you are recording.

Don't know what problems it will cause (only made 2 movies) but do know I would prefer to take the movies while looking thru the viewfinder. Paul
