TedG's Nikon 85mm f1.8G Thread

My new 85/1.8G arrived yesterday and I took it out for a spin today. It wasn't very sunny. Actually, it was very overcast, but this lens brings out all the color that's available. I didn't buy it for portraits, since I get very little opportunity to take portraits. For my purposes, it will be a low-end telephoto. I like getting in close and this lens will be great.

On the second posting I see the photos, great capture.

May I ask you a favor. Would you like, if you don't mind, take some photos with your Nikon D3300 as well with the 85mm mounted on it?

great lens and on my "want to upgrade to" list but the damn AF speed is horrible. even the last two sales when it was $400 and I cant bring myself to buy it because of this. very sharp lens. from reviews sharper than the 1.4g. I think like with the 50 1.8 vs 1.4g they shot themselves in the foot buy making the cheaper options better.

I don't require super fast AF. As a landscape type of short telephoto, I can wait all day for the color and clarity this lens provides.

absolutely. the lens is stellar. I want it bad. but I know ill regret the purchase because of frustration. I need speed when shooting on the dance floor.
