P340 "food setting" colour balance

Ive just acquired a P340 and am puzzled by the "food" scene setting. Under incandescent lights it gives a very exaggerated yellow cast to the picture (with the colour dial centered). Oddly, moving the dial one click towards red gives a more accurate and pleasant result.

Can someone please explain what's happening or what I'm doing wrong?
