Some MX Practice Before Hangtown

Went and shot with the D800e lasy week. The keeper rate wasn't what my 1DsII was but it was decent. Still haven't got the focus locked down.

What modes are you using? Back button AF-C?

AFC Single point Have both buttons running for now. Usually use BACK It is set to SLOW track Wonder if I should set it to focus instead of release priority?

I've been using single point AFC, back button, focus priority, works great. I have not used tracking.

Don't change anything - judging by these two photos, you're doing well. Maybe a bit more of background blur (wider aperture=narrower DoF), but it can be done during postprocessing too:

What focus speed are you guys using SLOW I assume? Here is one with shallow DOF...

Doesn't look shallow. Looks to be like f8 or equivalent. And what is focus speed?

I think that is at F3.2-4 at 135mm How fast the camera re-focus's on a subject you are tracking. Having it slower will allow you to go through other riders, grass, trees etc. while tracking and camera should not readjust focus on other things entering frame.
