Honestly, how many of us are going to drop $12,000 for a lens? I can get a 400mm f/3.5 (about 1/3 stop slower) ED AIS Nikkor used and in outstanding condition for $1600-1800. So what if you have to focus it yourself? My eye focuses a lot better than any autofocus system in low light anyway.

I agree with you about dropping $12k on this lens, but some will buy it. I hope that its introduction will free up some of the current 400mm f2.8 models in the field. I would buy one of those if the right opportunity occurs.
