First-time DSLR user. Really basic question

I just got my first DSLR (D5300) and have a really basic question (the answer is probably in the manual, but I am notorious for not seeing the most obvious things right in front of my nose[ask my wife]). When I am using the LCD screen to either change settings, or view the scene, it shuts off after 2-3 seconds. How can I either extend the time, or keep it on permanently. Battery drain is not a problem, I have an AC power adaptor.

Many thanks

Thanks Kevin: the Long setting seems to work well (though the Custom setting behaves strangely).

At the risk of abusing your patience: I am using a microscope adaptor, so the camera sees "No lens attached" and does not show the light meter, which makes adjusting the exposure trial and error. Is there still a way to have the light meter show up?

Again, may thanks

Not sure, I would think it needs to lens to communicate with the body for that information, but only speculation. That above my pay grade but I am sure someone will confirm or deny it soon.
