Dear Nikon Experts

I recently purchased Nikkor 17-35mm f/2.8D and finding it to be very soft (glowing) at f/2.8 on its wider zoom. Is this normal, or do I have faulty lens? Please share your experience. Oh, I'm using D800.

Thanks all.

I think what you are calling "soft" is simply the narrow depth of field when shooting wide open.

Try shooting at F/6 - F/8 and see what you think....

Cheers, Don

Shallow DOF with a 17mm?

A 17mm, at f/2.8, has a hyperfocal distance of 11 feet. This will bring everything from 5-1/2 feet to infinity into focus.

If just the corners are soft, it can't be a focus issue.

Best way to check is by using a tripod to eliminate the other possibilities.

Will check the images later on back home.
