Playing with Fire

Took this just a month after getting my camera. Still learning my way around all the menus and controls.

Snapped this one with my 55-200 kit lense
ISO 1600, 1/8, f/4

I like the picture because of the capture of the young man on the left and his intense focus.

I would straighten it just a tiny bit, and also get rid of the small distracting lights in the background/around the kid:

Ahh yes, much cleaner without those little lights! I am notoriously crooked.

Something mildly compelling about this shot... I like the effect from the slow shutter and the overall composition which feels tight and well controlled. Black and white is definitely making this work for me. The cleanup wud performed was much needed and adds real punch to an already well done shot. The difference between mediocre and real "Wow Factor" is so often in the details.
