Looking for pict feedback

Not sure if it's just me, but the B&W photo seems a little soft, which may or may not be the intent, but I'm not seeing anything that's got a crisp focus. On the bottom photo the focus seems to be on the tree in the foreground and not on the kids. Also the dark haired boy's face seems pixelated, like the photo was enlarged beyond it's original dimensions. I like the composition, but the other aspects are distracting to me.

What are you guys looking at? I didn't see any picture from the OP!?!?

Update: Went back to the original post, clicked on Edit post, and up popped the 2 pictures! I wonder why it didn't show up in the first place? Very weird!

Top photo needs less DOF. Backgroung to distracting.

Photo #1 overexposed and the focus isn't there

Thanks for feed back. I have been interested in photography for a while finally have an opportunity. I got a free copy of elements9 and ps cs6 and have been watching YouTube videos to learn them. Thanks again I'll update my signature soon.
