Any ideas how to monitor Audio and Audio Level while recording Video?

Wow, I am sure this is really simple, but I simply can't figure out how to monitor the audio except by watching MANUEL SENSITIVITY.

I connected a small BEACHTEK XLR adapter and am using an Audio-Techica boom mic.

I can't seem to monitor the audio with head phones either.

What a hassle.

Any suggestions?

I don't know if this is what you are after.. but, The HDMI out on the D5200 can be used to send clean uncompressed video to an external monitor or hard drive recorder and this HDMI signal includes audio.
