My bad -- typed and sent in haste.
I meant turn off the image preview that shows immediately after taking a picture. The control is in menu/camera, but it can not be toggled on/off -- you get the 'can not do' screen. Perhaps it is a set thing and can not be changed, but it sure is annoying having to wait between snaps.

Are you sure of that? I don't have a D5200, but Playback menu - Image Review works on my D800 and D300 - If Off, then no image is displayed on rear LCD after taking a picture.
But regardless, you do not have to wait on it. Just tap (half press) the shutter button, and the rear LCD image goes dark, and the camera is instantly ready. For example, you can use continuous shooting, several frames per second. Shooting more fast is not a problem.
I am speaking of viewfinder shooting. Live View possibly could be a complication?
