Extreme cropping

Since most of the newer cameras including entry level cameras now have 24mp, let's show the resolution power of our cameras. Please include the camera, lens used and other nice to know data when you took the shot i.e. tripod or hand-held.

Let the fun begin so allow me to start one.

D800E, Zeiss 135mm f2, hand-held, f2, 1/1600, ISO 100, manual focus of course.

100% crop

I just took a photo yesterday, and did some extreme cropping on it today.

A little over 100% Crop.

Nice example Glen. What on earth made you think about doing this thread :)

Thanks for the eye shot, Wayne. I just bought a used D700 and now I have to have a D800, too.

That is phenomenal.

WM

Congrats on your camera WM. Feel free to join in.

I'm very happy with the 600.

If the D600 came out first, I would have been very satisfied with it especially at 24mp. The jump to D800E forced me to spend another $1,600 for my computer upgrade (which I didn't mind doing).

After over a year and a half of use, I've only used almost 500gb of hard drive space or make that x2 since I back up my files.

Here is another one from the same set-up.

Zeiss 135mm f2 @ f2, 1/250, ISO 100

SH-60 helicopter conducting search and rescue operation. These cropped images are like images from a telescope captured in a digital form.

100% crop

No, I was wondering if you could zoom in enough to see the face.

Don - maybe with a 300mm f4 would have given me more reach but using a manual focus lens 135mm, the second image was at 100% crop already and it starts to get "pixelated" (is that a word?) as you go to 200% view. I was just happy to read the squadron and side number of the helicopter since I couldn't read it just by watching it fly by.
