D600 at ISO 12,800

I tried ISO 12,800 with my Nikon D600 using my Nikon 70-200VR F2.8 lens. This is straight out of the camera except to re-size to post. Originally I posted the ISO as 25,600 and that is incorrect. I was on H1 not H2. The thumbnail attatchment has the wrong ISO on it but it is the same picture.

It looks really good. Could you post a full size piece like a checker square. Would love to see what kind of noise there is at that orbital level of ISO.

Re: D600 at ISO 12,800

I went back and re-shot this at H2 or 25,000 ISO. I though I was on that in the previous shot. Straight out of the camera except to re-size to be able to post it.

I just shot a street concert last night on an art walk here in Topeka, KS and I had to shoot the show at 6400 the whole time with my 85mm f1.8G and they came out amazing. The ISO abilitiy from the D600 is no joke I love it!!!! Thanks for the shots of H1 and H2 I have never tested them before and it is good to see that they are useableble as well. Thanks again.

This is a cropped section of the ISO 25.600 picture in post #3 of this thread. You would normally not use this high of ISO but it looks pretty good considering it's ISO 25,600 and no post processing has been done to it.

Re: D600 at ISO 12,800

I assume these are jpgs rather than raw. If so won't the camera do high ISO noise reduction. I ask as I only shoot raw and my ISO 3200 images look noisier on my D800 before I process them.

Re: D600 at ISO 12,800

FYI; Technically, there is no such thing as ISO 25,600 (or 12,800 for that matter). ISO 10,000 is as high as the international standard goes at the moment.

Normally I take raw with fine JPEG but in this case these are straight JPEG photos. I don't have any noise reduction turned on in the camera, don't know if it does t automatically. I don't think it does but don't know for sure.

Apparently it does some for anything above ISO 2500. It's on page 218 of the manual. It is only a low amount according to the manual.

Another D600 with Nikon 70-200VR using a Nikon 20E III 2X teleconverter shot handheld at ISO 25,600 shot as JPEG. The longer I have this camera the more I like it!!!!!

Wonderful photos in here! It's great to see several threads in the D600 section of this website about TAKING PHOTOS with the D600 instead of just "dusty sensors"...

Here are a couple I took the first day I owned my D600 wih the wonderful 50mm 1.8G all at ISO 6400:

(Full set here: Poker at Rich's House October 2012 - a set on Flickr. Full size Jpegs are there as well.)
