Perhaps I should have tried to make the whole face in focus? The eyes only seem to be in focus. What would you try to emphasize here?

Thank you

It is cool pic...
It's great you were able to use a tripod cos these fellas don't really cooperate :)
The face is in focus, so it's great.
Since you had a tripod you could have tried f/16 or f/22 as they would've given a little more area in focus..

I'd say that as far as that pic scaring the crap out of me, yes you are getting better. ;)

Seriously though, shooting a bug like that using a tripod and getting that kind of angle with that kind of depth of field, no small feat. What is interesting is this is almost like a personal point of view of one bug squaring off against another bug.

A much better shot, huge! The perspective, like crycocyon said, looks like you're squaring off with the critter.

You mentioned you could have made the face sharper. However, I think what it needed was a little post work so it didn't have that "haze" over it. The tripod of course made a huge improvement as well.

A quick 5 minute touch-up and your crickets face looks sharper already.

Thanks again for sharing. I love this shot of a killer cricket!
