Friday Night Football (examples)

There have been a few people asking about how to shoot High School Football under the lights. WE had a preseason game Thursday night so I took the time to shoot some examples. Here is how I did it. Shots following have the EXIF data on the bottom of each picture.

D5100
AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED
Aperture Priority Mode set for 1/250 sec
ISO set to Auto - 400 with a max of 6400 - Minimum shutter speed 250

You results may vary depending on how good the lighting is in your stadium. You decide on if the grain is worth the shot.

Game started before the sun went down at 7pm

Good series Don. Shooting at night is definitely challenging.

ISO 6400 is grainy BUT getting the shot in focus and the action is stopped. For what it is and who it is for I think the results are pretty good. If I were doing it for a living I would invest in a 2.8 zoom but for the average mom or dad shooting the game this will work

Great idea Don, our season hasn't started yet so I will contribute later.

Shots look good and Glen is right on t being challenging.
