As shot, I thnk the image is let down by the presence of the barn.

I would crop the image to put the flower head on the upper third axis and let the "bokeh" flowers do their job;
I would then do some slight sharpening and colour vibrance/saturation increses.

You know something? You have 2 completely different pictures there, not 2 variations of the same picture.
Think of it this way.
Picture 1... with Barn
Gives the impression of cultivated field of sunflowers.
Picture 2... no Barn
Field of wild sunflowers.

Emotionally, the differences are HUGE!

Just my 99 cents worth.

Different perspectives from different people. What a concept! ;) I like both pictures, too, for different reasons. I think Pete hit the nail on the head on this one. :)

Well, I certainly would never advocate excising elements that appeal to the photographer's eye.

I like the idea that a slight difference of veiw has created two distict images from the same exposure.
