I've stood in the infield of a couple racetracks with cars zipping past me, right in the turn, and been incredibly lucky many times. Doing the whole panning thing, etc, it's easy to miss what is going on around you!

Wonder what options are available for insuring ones gear.. and how expensive they are...

eek! He def would've been more upset if it wasn't insured. It would be stupid for a professional photographer that shoots drag racing to not have stuff insured, or anyone that has high priced gear for that matter.

It doesn't take long if you are a typical Nikon user to have your equipment add up to a big number real fast. Contact your insurance company, record all serial numbers, keep all receipts, check out what the deductible would be if lost and what the depreication if applicable would be. In other words, go pay them a visit, spend the time, find out what happens incase of loss, theft damage etc. Cover the bases...
