Petzval 85mm lens for DSLR

This looks like an interesting kickstarter project. It looks like it has plenty of funding. I might have funded $300 for the lens if there were any spots available. I think that would have been worth it for an 85mm f2.2 lens designed after the old time Petzval lens. The link has some interesting history on the original lens as well.

That sounds like a very cool project

It does look like a rather special use lens.

I'm not warming up with the samples that they've posted on the link. Not even close to call them sharp.

The Rokinon / Samyang 85mm f1.4 MF lens might be a better buy and they are available now.

Yeah, I'm not ditching my Nikon 85mm f1.8 for this anytime soon. I think the makers are going for a bit of nostalgia and the "swirling bokeh" effect. All that can be had with some creative PP. But either way it's a cool looking lens IMO.
