FOCUS MODE v AF-AREA MODE

Apologies in advance if this question seems a little basic, but I am struggling with a couple of things on my new DSLR (3200).

What is the difference between FOCUS MODE and AF-AREA MODE.
I am something of a novice, so would appreciate any feedback in "every person" terms (i.e.: not too technical)

OK, this is as simple as I can make it without sounding snarky. :) The answer you seek is in your owners manual! AF-AREA MODE is simply Auto Focus Area Mode; eg: covers a wide area of focus. FOCUS MODE just means you can select the type of Focus Mode you want; eg: Matrix, Single Point, Dynamic, etc. It's the Mode Priority that you decide on, or let the camera decide by what you select as your Focus. Hope this makes sense to you. :)
