Hello!

I am new to the forum and to Nikon cameras. I shoot a Pentax K100d at this time, but will be buying a new Nikon soon. I am looking at the D7000. My dilemma is the following. Best Buy has a package sale consisting of the D7000 + the 18-105mm for $999USD or the above mentioned and the 55-300mm for $1299USD. Is the 55-300mm worth paying $300 more? I am a hobbyist and like to shoot landscapes, portraits, architectural and some street candid. I look forward to learning and contributing in the future. Thank you for your feedback in advance!

Welcome. I have the D7000 and the 18-105 ( as well as other FX lenses) and the 18-105 serves its purpose. If you want the reach then I would go the 55-300, I just cant comment on that lens.

Also, if you go with the 55-300 you are still going to need to buy a lens to cover the 18 to 55 range. You'll probably spend more time shooting in it than above 55mm.

Welcome to Nikonites... I have the 18-105 and the 55-300... Some will tell you that the 70 - 300 is a better lens, and they may be right. The 55-300 has done a fine job for me (though a little slow to focus).

I bought my lens as a Factory Refurb from Adorama, they have the 55-300 for $209..

You are correct...I am getting the 18-105mm, but I am trying to decide if $300 more is a good deal for the 55-300mm, in addition to the 18-105mm
