ISO and focus.

Well, focus is focus. Iso won't affect it. But your picture will have more grain or noise at higher iso. You may be shooting in high iso because of low light. Low light may affect the camera's ability to make good focus on a scene, but its not the iso causing it.

Hi neighbor! I'm about 90 miles down the river. Just try for the best light and lowest iso. Keep your shutter speed up there. They say 1 over the focal length, but VR will buy one 1 or 2 stops. Still best to look for good light and a higher shutter speed for tack sharp photos.
Edit: I just realized this was in the low light forum, so I guess you won't find the best light at night. But everything else applies. In low light, you probably will want a tripod. Then you can keep your shutter speed lower and use a lower iso too for better quality. You might need to manually focus on darker scenes.
