I can't auto focus my lens on my D3200

So here is the deal. I am using a 50mm 1.8, and when i look at my screen at the information display, and then click the I button to place the cursor in the information display, it will not let me highlight the focus mode. It is set in manual focus, and I can't figure out how to unlock it, so i can switch it to autofocus.
Is it from a setting I have somewhere else? i need to figure this out asap!

Which 50mm do you have, the D or the G?

I have the D. it's a few years old.

The D will not autofocus on your camera. YOu have to manually focus it. There is no focus motor in that lens.
