Couple weeks ago while wander in the forest I came across this very sad sight. It looks like this animal was caught in the "fork " of this tree and died there. I think it's a Marten?

The skull looks too small and the pellet the wrong color for it to be a Marten, but I honestly don't have any better suggestions.

My bachelors is in zoology and I used to study/draw skulls. :)
I determined that it isn't a ferret, raccoon, or mink. But it is definitely an american pine marten, which is in keeping with its fur coloration. They don't have any predators so it is possible it was weakend by hunger and ended up in that branch, perhaps falling down to it.
