No he/she died there, the ribcage & leg bones are at the base of the tree.
My bachelors is in zoology and I used to study/draw skulls. 
I determined that it isn't a ferret, raccoon, or mink. But it is definitely an american pine marten, which is in keeping with its fur coloration. They don't have any predators so it is possible it was weakend by hunger and ended up in that branch, perhaps falling down to it.
