I work as a freelance photographer for a company that gives me access to cameras. I have shot with a d700, d800, and d3. With them I shoot sports, weddings, parties, yearbooks, and portrait. I am now looking to branch off into my own business most likely weddings and other parties on the side to make some extra cash as a second job. I am expecting twins and have a 2 year old son so why not. I have never shot with a d600 but money is an issue for me to get started. So I was thinking about a used d700 as I really love this camera but a d600 is right there and seems like it could be great minus the af system, pc synce and 10 pin. I am a great photographer and am just trying to make the right investment. Some of the d600 reviews and experience scare me while the single slot scares me on the 700. When I shoot weddings for the company I have a partner and he takes the d800 alot I just like the 700 much more so no worries 2 cameras. I do not know but here is the bundle: Nikon D600 Full Frame DSLR Camera 2 Lens Bundle
Ps I feel as if I missed the purchase point of the 700 as there are some on ebay and amazon but that is a seedy practice to buy.... thanks for the help Louis

No, it is priced too high.
I bought a 24-85VR for $225
I bought a 70-300VR for $350
I bought a D800 for $2300

A D600 should be selling for about $1600 +/-

Do the math.

I really wanted a D600, but seeing it has issues (apparently even after being "fixed"), I would purchase something else.

somehow these companies always make a package look attractive and give you a discount ($400), but as pointed out, buy single and save, plus you can do it a little at a time and get what you want.

It would be more helpful if you shared the name of the store you purchased from.

Those *are* some pretty impressive prices...

Adorama, B&H and Amazon are all getting just a few bucks under $2K for the D600, body only.

On B&H photo I see the following prices:

D600 body - $1996
24-85 VR - $597
70-300 VR - $597
WU-1B wireless - $60

Right there you are at $3,250. Add the case, DVD and 32GB SDcard to that.

The bundle at Costco ($2,890) seems like a nice deal if you want a D600 and considering their nice warranty package.

The D800 body at B&H is $2,797. Where are your prices from? New or used?

I don't think those are lenses you are going to want to conduct a business with down the road. The D600 is a great camera if you don't mind cleaning the sensor. D800 if you don't have a problem with large files. It really comes down to $$.

My only advice - other than agreeing with everyone else - is to shop at Adorama for your gear. Only stray if they don't have it, which would be rare. Price, service, 30 day tryout period, simple returns, and they'll buy your old gear @ 70% of retail and pay shipping on top of it. I shop nowhere else these days. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I know the 600 seems like lots of probems! Would live a d700 but feel I missed the boat! Plus the 800 is just way more than I need....stinks I feel stuck!

Tough one,, but,, I think the D700 is getting a bit long of tooth,, I would stretch to a D800,, extra pixels can be so so handy, and you keep the high end features of the D700,

I own both the D700 and D800, and once I reversed the metering back to the D700 mode, and assigned the same function buttons and picture preview mode, etc, well, I have to check the label to tell which camera I am picking up..

except the D800 has the safety of two cards which for weddings seems too valuable to give up.

I would consider a rebuilt/warranty D800 if price is a issue.

good luck.
