new 80-400 with a 1.4 TC

Quick question: has anyone tried the above? If so how was IQ? I am trying to decide between that combo and a 300/f4 with 1.4 TC.....thanks!

I think the image quality would be better with your second option...Plus it wouldn't hunt as much in low light...

I was kind of afraid that would be the response....trying to get close to 500 for some birding.

Ok...again for birding the 150-500 vs the 50-500 Sigma....I have read that the latter actually has better IQ than the former, which theoretically seems implausible given the zoom factors.....any thoughts?

Maybe the latter is more modern as has newer technology like sigma's VR equivalent?
