Nikon F2as - Top LED light question

Is anyone familiar with the Nikon F2as? I have read that the top LED light (1) should only come on when the correct exposure is achieved. However the LED on this camera lights up whenever the switch (2) is pulled back? Any suggestions.

I have had a definitive answer from a gentleman on Ebay :)

The switch to the right is to light up the shutter speed indicator in the viewfinder when it is dim or dark, and also lights the LED at the same time, maybe for a battery check with the film advance lever half cocked.

It will also light up when the correct exposure is achieved "but only when the eyepiece shutter is closed". This keeps out stray light for a more accurate reading, especially for long exposures, using the self timer, etc..
