wide angle vs panorama

So about a month ago I was very motivated to obtain a ultra wide angle zoom primarily for landscapes...not indoor use. Around the same time I then began to play around with producing panos - holding the camera vertical to capture as much 'y space' as possible.

Honestly, using this technique and Microsoft ICE software (free) then importing to LR, the results were rather stunning, as well as surprising. Other than huge files sizes (up to 650MB) there is no evidence of stitching and great detail.

Just a thought.....FWIW.

I will be doing the same thing in Africa, although I do like my 16-35 I think some Pano's of the Serengeti shot with a 50mm prime would be awesome.

Wait until you combine an ultra-wide lens with a panoramic. Magic happens! Both of these were captured using a Sigma 10-20 on a D300:

Wow, Nice! I honestly never even thought of combining the two....lol.
It does create a slightly different effect though.

Think about what happens when you do an HDR pano with a wide angle.
Got one hanging in my room now, and everyone who has seen it just gasps :p
