About focal lengths

Having used cameras well before the advent of the zoom lens, zooming with ones feet was just the way one did things. I do have to admit I'm very happy to have a couple of zooms in my bag these days instead of a pile of primes. Love the primes, just not a bag full of them.

I know all that but this was an interesting exercise. Makes you think a little more about what you are doing. When I was at rehab today I found the therapist had a 18 month old and they had bought a D3100 for baby pictures. She asked what she needed to do to shoot better pictures. A very broad question indeed. The one thing I could tell her to pay attention to most was to find a beautiful setting that would look great without a baby in it and then put the baby there. Pay attention to the background first and then the subject.
