Hello Glenn - It's not a 300mmf4, however it's a great lens to have if a person doesn't want to lug the big stuff around or if on vacation. The IQ surprised me in how good it is, especially in the center. It's almost as good as the 24-120VRF4. Here is another wide open @ 300mm & 5.6 with the D4

I think it's a better FX lens than a DX. Good on both, but the full size sensor seems to like it more. At least for me.
