Interesting, it does sound like this will be the top Dx.

What does the center sensor capable of f8 lenses mean? That it does not focus at the widest aperture?

The New Nikon D7100

Nikon unveils D7100 mid-level 24MP APS-C DSLR with no low-pass filter
Nikon has announced the D7100 - a 24MP mid-range, enthusiast-focused APS-C DSLR. The D7100 promises high resolution by making do without an optical low-pass filter in front of its 24MP CMOS sensor. It gains a more sophisticated 51-point autofocus system and a 7fps 1.3x cropped shooting mode that provides a 2x crop compared to a 35mm system. The D7100 has a recommended price of $1,599/£1,299 with 18-105mm F3.5-5.6 VR lens.

Look to be an awesome camera- 51 point auto focus and 1.3 crop Wicked :)

Well I have always said about 20-24 MP is what it takes to take on film at its best...1.3 crop is odd...hummm... :)

Re: The New Nikon D7100

I am afraid to say, but with this comes the EOL of the D90...
The last of its DXX series.
:sorrow:
It does have some nice specs though.

Looks the goods. By the look of the specs, this is the upgrade not only to the D7000 but also the D300.

Nikon D7100 is now officially announced!

Officially announced at midnight. The D7100 spec sheet looks good, but it still has the prosumer body. As per Nikon rumor admin, they predict there won't be any higher end APSC DSLRs. Which means, no more D400 :(

Product Highlights

  • 24.1MP DX-format CMOS Sensor
  • EXPEED 3 Image Processing Engine
  • 1080p Full HD Video Capture
  • 3.2" 1,229k-dot LCD Monitor
  • Optical Viewfinder with OLED Display
  • 6 fps Up to 100 Shots at Full Resolution
  • 51-point AF with 15 Cross-type Sensors
  • Built-in High Dynamic Range
  • Magnesium Alloy Body; Moisture Resistant
  • Optional WU-1a Wi-Fi Adapter

On top of all the specs, it's only $1,199.00 for body only and $1,599.00 with 18-105mm kit lens!

Not to blow my horn too loud but I've been predicting the end of APSC pro cameras over a year ago. With full frames being so affordable, not to mention plentiful, there just isn't enough demand for professional level DX cameras to make producing them feasible.

Not to mention Fuji is making very small camera bodies fitted with these crop sensors...I can definitely see the big bulky DSLR DX getting downsized.

Looking at the specs, reviews by Moose Peterson and that new crop factor, if Nikon called this a D400 I think it would pass. This may be the upgrade for my D300. Love to get no high pass filter and 24MP behind the 17-55 and 105!

Looking over the specs, the only things I miss is the OLED Viewfinder Info and lack of AA filter. However, with my recent (one week) purchase of a D7000, I feel I got a heck of a deal... $300 cheaper plus 16GB memory card and Lowepro case included. Take the cost difference and put it toward some glass.

What makes a big difference to me is that it has the same weather sealing as the D800. Nikon took a similar approach with the D300/D700 and they are incredible.

I got a notice from Adorama with all the info... ITs available for pre-order... I am not likely to jump on it myself... if anything I may someday try and grab a discounted 7000 to go with my 5100...

Re: Nikon D7100 is now officially announced!

like the lock button on the dial ..dont like the "effects" between M and U1...micky mouse feature should be with auto .
Hope its quiet like the 3200
The idiot rockwell says may not work with sigma lens....so off to the UK focus exhibiton on Mar 3 with me test chart and a sigma 18-200 lens !!
As I shoot everyting at at least F8 when possible the missing anti alaising filter may give me no advantage .
I worry there is a 7200 on the way...?? 7100 seems a silly next number

Re: Nikon D7100 is now officially announced!

Still out of my budget and photography needs, but looks like a nice set of features/specs indeed.

There's a photography exhibition here next weekend, so hopefully they'll have it at the Nikon stand for some hands on 'playing'
