People have always told me I take good pics...even with my cheap $100 point and shoot cameras. So I decided to throw down some coin on a Nikon D5100 kit that best buy had on sale for $599.99. Have not even got the camera out of the box. The bible of an owners manual is quite overwhelming to say the least. So I thought I would join to get pointers and tips from more experienced photographers. I hope to learn a lot and am glad to be here!

Hello New Guy From Kansas. Glad to have you aboard.

If you are a total noob to photography there are three essential things to know and understand how they work together.

1. ISO
2. Shutter Speed
3. Aperture

Do some U Tube searches and it will get you started.

You can also use the scenic modes on the D5100 so you can take some nice pics right off the bat. Just like a point and shoot on steroids. Go through the Users Manual page by page and you will be up and running in no time.

This is a great place to learn and pass it on to others. Don't be shy just ask away.

Most of all... have fun!

Hi Kansas shooter.
You have a big advantage being a decent shooter already.

What's behind the camera, is almost always more important than what's in it.
Get both together and you're pretty much sorted.
